Timothy Fires Back 'No Empty Barrel'
Sterlan Timothy, the People’s National Movement (PNM) candidate for Bethel/New Grange, has issued a spirited defense of his leadership credentials following verbal attacks from political rival Farley just days before the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections. Addressing a rally in Scarborough, Timothy dismantled the « empty barrel » label used to describe him, asserting that such insults are merely attempts by opponents to elevate themselves by bringing others down.
Refuting claims that he lacks leadership quality, Timothy pointed to his professional tenure, noting that he has been employed at the THA for over ten years. He emphasized his deep understanding of the « day-to-day runnings » of the Assembly, countering the narrative that he is unfit to lead. Timothy declared that he is not on the platform to fight « podium wars » or attack people’s character to win votes, but rather to earn the trust of the electorate and rally for their rights.
Positioning himself as a « young man from the grassroots of Bethel, » Timothy flipped the « empty barrel » insult on its head. He argued that the very volume of the « noise » he is accused of making proves his effectiveness, stating that if he were not making sense, no one—including his detractors—would be listening. He concluded by pledging to stand by his community and lead them into the future, representing the « empty barrels » who have been cast aside.
