The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition says Saint Lucia remains at low risk for hantavirus transmission, but officials are keeping a close watch on an outbreak linked to a cruise vessel carrying passengers and crew from nearly 30 countries. The vessel, the MV Hondius, departed Argentina on April 1st, 2026, and has since been connected to nine reported cases of hantavirus, including three deaths.
Five of the nine cases have been laboratory confirmed, while international health authorities continue efforts to contain the spread of the virus and ensure affected individuals receive proper medical care.
