Trinidad and Tobago may not have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but one Trinidadian will still be bringing the nation’s energy to football’s biggest stage.
Alinton Brereton, better known as DJ Anarchy, has been selected to perform at official FIFA World Cup events in Houston and Los Angeles, where he will entertain fans from around the globe while showcasing Caribbean culture and Trinidad and Tobago pride.
For DJ Anarchy, the opportunity began with an unexpected message on social media.
The Trini-born entertainer, who now performs internationally, said FIFA organisers reached out after following his work online, believing his high-energy style would be a perfect fit for the tournament’s entertainment line-up.
He is now set to perform at official FIFA World Cup events in both Houston and Los Angeles.
« At first, when I got the message, I initially, my first thought is like, ‘Okay, yeah, this is a joke. This is someone just trying to scam me,’ right? So, you know, I looked at the message, looked at the person who sent it, and I actually did some research and then I saw, okay, it was actually official. »
While Trinidad and Tobago will not be represented on the field, DJ Anarchy said he is determined to ensure the country’s presence is still felt throughout the tournament.
He plans to incorporate Soca, dancehall, and other Caribbean sounds into his sets, introducing international audiences to the region’s vibrant culture.
« I will be stamping my name, you know, who is DJ Anarchy, you know, where I’m from, obviously Trinidad. So they’re gonna get the nice Caribbean Trinidad flavour to the ting, as we say, you know, I mean, in addition to me fusing all different types of music and everything, you know. So, yeah. Just definitely stepping out there, you know, just doing my best, you know, leaving a great impression, just having fun. »
The milestone also serves as inspiration for young DJs and creatives hoping to break into the international market.
DJ Anarchy credits consistency, discipline, and the power of social media for helping him reach audiences far beyond Trinidad and Tobago.
« I just want all the young DJs to know hey, believe in yourself, just stay focused, stay disciplined, definitely stay humble, stay humble, treat people good, do good business. And it’s endless opportunities out there. You see what I’m saying? We have social media now, which is like the best free tool that you could use at your fingertips. Use your social media. »
As he prepares to perform before thousands of football fans, DJ Anarchy said his focus is on representing the red, white and black proudly and leaving a lasting impression on the world stage.
« I’m going to be rocking this Trinidad and Tobago t-shirt throughout my journey, throughout doing all my World Cup activities and stuff. As much as I could wear it, I’m going to be wearing it and representing. Even though we’re not in a World Cup, I’m here, and I’m going to be representing for us. »
