Transport Minister Praises PTSC Performance Amid Service Disruptions

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour says he is pleased with the performance of the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) over the past two days.
He made the comment after speaking with members of the public at City Gate on Tuesday amid a disruption to the public transportation system caused by reduced maxi-taxi services.
With the PTSC’s bus service bolstered by the TTPS, Air Guard, Fire Service and the ODPM, commuters appeared pleased with the public transportation options available at the capital city’s key transportation hub.
The lines moved quickly as people boarded buses every few minutes without much complaint.
Minister Zakour interacted with travellers to get their feedback on the service being provided.
« I am very pleased with the management and staff of PTSC for what they have done between yesterday and today. And being on the bus a short while ago, I was speaking to passengers and I asked if you normally come on the bus or maxis and they indicated maxis and I asked after today and yesterday how would you be travelling moving forward and they said they will be utilised in the bus service so I’m very very proud to hear that and they were very impressed as well with the service of PTSC. »
He added that the PTSC has been operating with just a third of its fleet but emphasised the Government’s commitment to continue improving the bus service.
« We are working tirelessly to address the fleet as we speak. When we came into office, 71 routes were discontinued. We are bringing back on routes slowly, redeploying buses, and that was prior to this action by the maxi taxis. »
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation issued a media release on Tuesday evening, stating that the Priority Bus Route remains open to light motor vehicles from Arima to Port of Spain until Wednesday at 11:59pm.
