Finance Minister: “I’m Focused On What I Have To Do”

Minister of Finance, Michael Halkitis, has dismissed speculation that he may be stepping down from his post, telling reporters he was focused on hosting the 56th Annual Caribbean Development Bank Board of Governors Meeting over the past two days and had not seen the reports. Halkitis said he remains committed to his role and is looking ahead to continuing the work of the Ministry, with the National Budget Debate scheduled to begin next week.
The comments come amid calls from the FNM and the COI for his resignation over his connection to Jonathan Eric “Player” Gardiner. Halkitis previously told reporters at the Office of the Prime Minister that, as a private citizen, he provided financial consulting services to Top Notch Builders in mid-2019 and served as a director of the company until resigning from that position in 2021.
