Former Governor-General of Saint Lucia Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac has passed away, marking the end of an era.
Before his tenure as the representative of the Crown, he entered national politics with the Saint Lucia Labour Party in 1968 and later became the Leader of the Opposition.
In June 1987, he made a historic shift by crossing the floor of the House of Assembly to join the ruling United Workers Party, successfully broadening the government’s slim legislative majority.
Following this highly debated transition, he was immediately appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, serving until 1992 before later moving to the upper chamber as the President of the Senate.
His extraordinary public career culminated in January 2018 when he was sworn in as Saint Lucia’s sixth Governor-General, a distinguished office he executed until his resignation in late 2021.
