Schistosomiasis Survey Results in Primary School Children
4 hours ago
From April 29, 2025 to May 16, 2025, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition conducted a Schistosomiasis (Bilharzia) Survey among children aged 8–11 years in Primary Schools across Saint Lucia. The students were randomly selected to participate in the survey, which involved a simple finger-prick blood test conducted by trained health professionals.
The Ministry of Health reports that all samples tested during the survey were negative for bilharzia. This is an important achievement for Saint Lucia and brings the country one step closer to eliminating the disease. The results also show that Saint Lucia is making good progress towards the goals set by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases.
