Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath says the government is moving to ease the water woes facing rural communities.

Speaking during the debate on the Finance Supplementation and Variation of Appropriation Bill on Monday night, Padarath said an unreliable supply of pipe-borne water will soon be a thing of the past for communities in Central and South Trinidad.

He had good news for affected communities as he assured them that the government is moving to fix the problems they face in these communities.

« I want to tell the people of Central Trinidad. When we are completed with the water treatment plant in Freeport by the end of the year, the people of Central will stop suffering for water. I can tell Mayaro, Moruga and Siparia when we are finished with the desalination and transmission line in those areas, the people of those areas will see significant progress. »

Minister Padarath noted that residents in Tobago have also not been forgotten.

« People in Tobago had to depend on one pump servicing the island. But the Prime Minister told me find the money and to work with Finance Minister. We sent the WASA CEO and Chairman to Tobago to meet with the Chief Secretary, and I can give you the assurance that we are working with our counterparts there and we will fix that challenge. »
