MP Khadijah Ameen Brings Government Services Closer To Constituents
3 hours ago
Residents in St Augustine, Tunapuna and environs had the opportunity to access Government and Social Services first-hand over the weekend as St. Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen hosted a community outreach programme.
Information on social grants, public assistance, and advice from NAMDEVCO were just a sample of the services residents had direct access to.
MP Ameen highlighted the purpose of bringing together Ministries and State agencies.
« The objective of today’s event is to bring government closer to the people, and that is a mandate of Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, whose example we are following here today. So I’m asking all the agencies, every individual you see this morning, please document their name, address, contact information and what their issue is and share that information with us so that we at the MP’s office in St Augustine can follow up with each individual agency on behalf of the constituent. »
Local Government representative for Curepe/Pasea, Jlynn Roopnarine, noted that the outreach programme provided an important opportunity for residents.
« By bringing multiple agencies together under one roof, we create a convenient and accessible platform where residents can have their questions answered, concerns addressed and needs identified. The benefits of today’s programme are significant. Residents will have the opportunity to learn about government programmes and services, access support and resources, receive guidance on various matters and establish direct connections with agencies to serve them. »
MP Ameen explained that she wanted to ensure residents’ needs were adequately met.
« We want to make sure that whatever issue they bring today that it is attended to, that it is dealt with and they are truly served. As Member of Parliament I see people every week. I have a list of 300 people waiting to see me, and it is impossible to see all those people at once. The agencies being present here will help more, help us to reach more people. We plan to do outreach like this in other communities. »
