Grounds and Beautification workers gathered outside the Ministry of Works this morning to protest a planned transfer of the unit to the Ministry of the Environment. Workers said they have spent decades in temporary positions without being made permanent and pensionable, or without promotions.

BPSU President Kimsley Ferguson said the workers want their longstanding employment issues to be resolved. Some said they are refusing to transfer until their concerns are addressed.

This transfer could impact 400 to 500 people in the Grounds and Beautification section.
