Ten Bodies Recovered After MV Barima Capsizes Off Guyana
Ten bodies have been recovered since the MV Barima capsized off the coast of Guyana over the weekend.
In a recent update via social media, the country’s Ministry of Public Works indicated that search and rescue operations began at first light on Monday, with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre deploying 13 assets.
The Ministry noted that the identification process is ongoing.
The social media post noted that the Government remains fully committed to the operation and continues to deploy all available resources to locate and account for every person who was aboard the MV Barima at the time of the tragic incident.
Several questions have been raised regarding the seaworthiness of the 80-year-old vessel.
An exact number of people who were on board remains uncertain.
Trinidad and Tobago has lent assistance by deploying Coast Guard personnel and a surveillance aircraft to the efforts as searches expand beyond the wreck site.
