NBA draft pick Malique Lewis paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Phillip Watts, on Monday as he prepares to inspire the next generation of local athletes.

Minister Watts welcomed San Fernando-born Lewis and his manager, Johnathan Weekes, on a courtesy visit to his office on Monday morning.

Lewis, who was selected 60th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2026 NBA Draft, told the Minister he left Trinidad and Tobago at the age of six and didn’t pick up a basketball until he was 16.

While home, Lewis said he plans to meet with local sporting committees and share his story with young athletes. He has been training at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs’ Elite Facility in Tacarigua, maintaining his morning and evening training sessions.

Minister Watts said Lewis’s rise should serve as motivation for athletes nationwide.
