DR. KENNY ANTHONY ST. LUCIA'S INDEPENDENCE STILL INCOMPLETE WHILE BRITISH LAW GOVERNS ITS COURTS
Former Prime Minister Kenny Anthony says St. Lucia’s independence remains incomplete, arguing a colonial-era clause in the Civil Code still ties the island’s courts to British statute law more than three years after it broke from the Privy Council.
He points to a 1956 provision that let a UK defamation law decide a local libel case as proof the country has yet to fully reclaim control of its own legal system.
