UWI Matriculants Encouraged To Combine Academic Excellence With Civic Duty
Incoming students at the UWI St. Augustine Campus are being encouraged to fulfil their civic duty while striving for academic excellence.
The Matriculation Ceremony was held on Friday.
Those impactful words by Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal of The University of the West Indies St.Augustine Campus, Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine lingered among eager matriculants, apprised of their responsibility to make a difference, while they obtain the relevant skills to excel in their fields of study.
Contributing to the Matriculation ceremony virtually was Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, who pointed to the social ills they can tackle.
He challenged students to be a part of the relevant research geared toward providing solutions to issues that may vary from illiteracy, climate change, reparatory justice or public health.
As the incoming students embark on this new chapter, they do so at a University, which ranks in the top 3.6% of the best 35,000 Universities in the world .
