Minister Smith Urges Caribbean Unity On AI And Digital Policy At CTU ICT Week 2026

Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, Senator Dominic Smith, is calling for greater Caribbean cooperation as the region navigates the rapid development of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Speaking at CTU ICT Week 2026 in French Guiana, Minister Smith said Caribbean states must coordinate their approaches to AI, data governance and digital policy.

He said greater collaboration can help countries share expertise, strengthen capabilities and engage global technology partners with a stronger collective voice.

Minister Smith also highlighted Trinidad and Tobago’s AI readiness initiatives, including the AI Academy and UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment.

He stressed that AI adoption must also address cybersecurity, data sovereignty, workforce development and safeguards for citizens.
