TT 50 Initiative To Transform 50 Tourism Sites Across T&T
As Trinidad and Tobago marks 50 years as a Republic, the Private Sector Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago (PSOTT) is driving a new national initiative that will transform 50 tourism sites across the country, boost GDP, improve communities and create more job opportunities.
With limited public resources available, PSOTT CEO Rudolph Hanamji says greater private-sector investment is critical to national development.
« For the last 50 years, we have not maintained our country as we should have, and we find ourselves with some of these sites, most of them are in need of investment. It creates one unified, transparent and structured platform through which private capital, technical expertise and CSR resources can be matched directly with validated national priorities, statutory approvals and clear community benefits. »
The initiative will also place a strong emphasis on youth and community involvement, with existing organisations being brought into the effort.
« We are using this national platform to support the revitalisation of youth movements and other structures across Trinidad and Tobago. This is an all-encompassing integrated model. »
However, Mr Hanamji says the initiative is not just about rehabilitating tourism sites, but also about ensuring they are maintained long after the work is completed.
Meanwhile, Technical and Marketing Advisor for Tourism Trinidad Limited, Ryan D’Arcy, says the initiative forms part of a wider strategy to diversify the economy, adding that tourism is a key part of the government’s non-energy diversification strategy.
« We’re moving beyond broad ambition and into organised delivery. This means taking Trinidad’s tourism assets, packaging them into market-ready products, improving the visitor experience, and creating clearer opportunities for private sector investment. »
The TT-50 pilot project will begin in October 2026. The initiative, which will be implemented in collaboration with the Northwest Scout Council, will serve as a testing ground for the broader TT-50 programme before its wider roll-out.
