Murders Continue To Decrease In Jamaica | TVJ News
Jamaica recorded its lowest third-quarter murder total in 30 years, with 122 killings between July and September.
September also recorded the lowest monthly murder figure so far in 2026, with 35 killings, surpassing the previous low of 37 recorded in August.
September marks the fourth time in 2026 that the country has recorded 40 or fewer murders in a single month.
Minister of National Security and Peace, Dr. Horace Chang, says the latest figures represent lives saved and communities experiencing reduced violence.
He says while the progress is being recognised, the focus remains on sustaining the gains and ensuring that Jamaicans feel safer.
The Ministry says it will continue working to consolidate the gains in the final quarter of 2026.
Jamaica recorded 673 murders in 2025, the lowest annual total in more than three decades.
