Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls continue to compete among the world’s best but could Jamaica be missing some of its best netball talent?

In this episode of Center Circle, we look beyond the court at the challenges facing the development of netball across Jamaica. While netball remains the island’s number one women’s sport, organized competition is heavily concentrated in Kingston, raising questions about how easily talent from rural communities can be discovered and developed.

Netball Jamaica officials and voices from the parishes discuss the need for stronger parish organizations, more competitions outside Kingston and better pathways for players who face the cost and difficulty of travelling to compete.

With players from across the island already making their way into the national setup, the question is whether Jamaica could uncover even more talent by taking the game to the communities where it is already being played.

Can decentralizing netball help Jamaica keep the Sunshine Girls at the top?
