What does it take to recover after a devastating hurricane? How do individuals and communities turn loss and disruption into renewed strength, opportunity and resilience?
Join the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Jamaica for the Recovery to Resilience Roundtable: Success Stories from the Frontlines of Hurricane Melissa’s Setback.
This special conversation brings together survivors and champions of resilience to share their personal experiences, lessons learned and perspectives on the journey from disaster to recovery.
Featuring Moya, Christina, Iniek, Trysion and Keisha, the roundtable creates space for firsthand stories, fireside chats, testimonials and audience questions. Moderated by Jauavaughn Keyes, the discussion highlights the importance of listening to affected communities and recognising the people at the heart of Jamaica’s recovery.
🌱 Why this conversation matters
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on October 28, 2025, leaving widespread destruction and disrupting homes, livelihoods, infrastructure and community life. Recovery requires more than rebuilding what was lost. It also means strengthening communities, restoring livelihoods, reducing future disaster risks and ensuring that vulnerable people are not left behind.
UNDP Jamaica’s recovery work includes support for livelihood restoration, community stabilisation and resilient reconstruction. The Jamaica Resilient Recovery Initiative (JARRI) is one example of efforts to help communities and national partners build forward better.
The roundtable also takes place in observance of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, highlighting the importance of preparedness, community resilience and learning from disasters.
