Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is celebrating a proud family milestone as her son, Kris, graduates.
In a heartfelt social media message, the Prime Minister praised her son’s hard work, dedication and perseverance, describing his graduation as a remarkable achievement.
She said she was immensely proud of him and prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom and protection as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.
The Prime Minister added that she looks forward to seeing him achieve even greater success in the years ahead.
From one graduation celebration to another, members of The UWI Class of 2026 were encouraged to consider the impact they will make beyond the campus walls. « What will you do with the knowledge you have acquired? »
That was the question posed by the University of the West Indies, St Augustine’s recipient of an honorary doctorate, Winston R. Rudder, to the graduands at Thursday’s commencement ceremony.
« The true value of your education: education will ultimately be measured not by what you know, but how effectively you apply that knowledge to solve problems in order to improve the lives of people and the wellbeing of communities, societies and countries. »
Meanwhile, the graduate delivering the valedictory address for the faculties of Science and Technology as well as Food and Agriculture, Kerlyssa De Verteuil, issued a challenge to her fellow graduands.
« Today I challenge you to carry the algorithm for Caribbean Leadership, that we are built to adapt, ready to lead and ready to lift our entire region together, showing the world exactly what UWI, St. Augustine graduates can do to create solutions for us, by us. »
The recipients of honorary awards for October 2026 were Winston R. Rudder, who received a Doctor of Science; Ambassador Colin Granderson, who received a Doctor of Law; and Professor Shaneeta Johnson, who received a Doctor of Science.
