CARPHA Issues Heightened Regional Ebola Risk Assessment.
As of October 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continues to experience an active outbreak, while new cases have been reported in Kenya and Nigeria. Although Uganda officially declared its outbreak over in July 2026, the spread of the disease has prompted CARPHA to increase the regional risk assessment for the Caribbean from low to moderate.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition has heightened surveillance and preparedness measures in response to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in parts of Africa.
The Ministry of Health advises nationals to:
1) Avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, and Nigeria.
2) Exercise extreme caution when travelling to neighbouring high-risk countries, including Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, and others identified in the advisory.
3) Follow public health guidance and remain informed about developments.
Additionally, effective November 3, 2026, persons boarding international flights to the United States must attest that they have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the preceding 21 days.
