Police Seize Illegal Firearm and Narcotics Worth Over EC $1.5 Million in Major Operations

In two separate high-impact operations, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has intensified its crackdown on gun violence and drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of an illegal firearm and over EC $1.5 million worth of narcotics.

On July 15, 2025, during an initiative codenamed Operation Safe Haven, the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit supported by the Special Operations Team, Special Services Unit, and Marchand Police Station, conducted a series of targeted raids in Odlum City. While initial searches yielded no results, a follow-up intelligence-led operation uncovered a loaded 9mm pistol with an extended magazine, concealed beneath a concrete slab near the residence of a suspect. The suspect was arrested, and the firearm was secured for forensic analysis.

The following day, July 16, the RSLPF executed two major drug interdictions in collaboration with Customs and Excise Department. The first occurred at the George F.L.Charles Airport Cargo Shed, where a volunteer with the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade was intercepted attempting to clear packages containing nearly 15 kilograms of suspected cannabis and cannabis derivatives.

Later that afternoon, a Port Police officer was arrested at Shed 6, Port Castries, after attempting to collect a barrel containing over 26 kilograms of cannabis resin hidden in sealed metal cans.

The combined estimated street value of the narcotics seized in both operations stands at more than EC $1.5 million. Both suspects remain in lawful custody as investigations continue.

These back to back successes underscores the RSLPF’s commitment to disrupting gun violence and dismantling drug trafficking networks in collaboration with Customs and Excise Department. Authorities are also encouraging enhanced screening of port personnel and stricter oversight of shipments linked to NGOs and charitable organizations, given the sophisticated concealment methods used by traffickers.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) thanks the public for its continued support and encourages anyone with information on illegal activity to contact law enforcement. Or use the 555 Hotline, I thank you.
