March 22nd is World Water Day however the Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) held a week of activities to raise awareness centered around water conservation. In addition, the company held a special promotion on water tanks to encourage customers to increase their potable water storage capacity.

Tourism Minister, Dr Ernest Hilaire says the next big boost to Saint Lucia’s visitor arrival numbers will be the increase in the island’s room stock. He spoke against the backdrop of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s release of its Caribbean Tourism Performance Review 2023. The CTO says regional tourism has registered positive post-COVID recovery, with the prospects for 2024 appearing extremely promising.

Several of the road markings in the town of Gros-Islet got a face lift. Trainees from The Centre for Adolescent Renewal & Education (C.A.R.E.) took part in the community project in which they repainted several speed bumps and pedestrian crossings across the town. The Saint Lucia Fire Service demonstrated to trainees how to use the fire hydrants.

The Youth Dance Festival is back. The event will feature about seven hundred dancers from various primary and secondary schools as well as dance companies. The aim of the festival is to provide a space for young dancers to express themselves and raise awareness to the career opportunities in dance.

The OAS departments on gender-based violence and public security is visiting the island to address issues relating to the sexual exploitation of migrant women and girls from March 20th to March 22nd. OAS officials visited the crisis centre and women’s support centre to get an in-person idea of issues faced by women on the island.

The National Workers Union (NWU) is hosting the International Union of Food, Agriculture, Tourism and Allied Workers Global Union 2024 Caribbean Conference. This four-day conference will look at the issues affecting workers across various sectors regionally post pandemic. These include benefits for hotel workers and sexual harassment of women in the workplace.
