200 School-Supply Vouchers Distributed To St Augustine Families

Two hundred school-supply vouchers were distributed to families in St Augustine ahead of the new school term, as MP Khadijah Ameen continued working with various groups in the constituency to provide assistance to families in need on Monday.
The initiative was facilitated through the St Augustine constituency office in collaboration with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ms Ameen said the assistance formed part of a wider effort to connect residents with support from private and charitable organisations.
« Today we are here with the church giving these vouchers to more constituents. As a Member of Parliament, it is important for me to facilitate NGOs, businesses, and others contributing to the development of our children, our constituency, and our wider community. »
Ms Ameen said the church’s involvement in St Augustine extended beyond the voucher distribution, with previous support including medical clinics and assistance following flooding.
She emphasised that the back-to-school vouchers and other assistance distributed through the constituency are funded entirely by private donors and charitable contributions, not by the government.
« I also ask you to keep in mind that what we do, this is not government-funded. This is the church giving. What we did yesterday, distributing all those hundreds of bookbags, is not government-funded. It is people who have their own charity they do. There are some people who are Muslim people, and they want to give a certain percentage of their earnings in charity, and they say, ‘Khadijah, I know if I give you bookbags, I’m sure you’re giving it to the right people’. »
