The VIP Lounge at the Hasely Crawford Stadium came alive with rhythm as children from schools across Trinidad and Tobago took to the dance floor for the annual Ballroom, Latin and Group Dance Competition.
From elegant waltzes to pulsating Soca beats, students from the Caroni, Port of Spain and St George East education districts dazzled the audience with their energetic performances.
The VIP Lounge was also a space of inclusion, as students from special schools joined their peers on the ballroom floor.
Charles Morris, Coordinator and Director of Nostalgia Promotions, said the project aims to spark positive engagement among participants, showing that movement can also be a powerful form of medicine.
« This project, basically, is to make a difference. The theme of the event is ‘Dancing is healthy fun’, so we are not just dancing, they are going to have some healthy fun. »
Wendy Simmons, Master of Ceremonies, emphasised that the annual competition is not only a source of entertainment for students but also contributes meaningfully to their overall development.
« These children would’ve been practicing for some while, for about a few weeks, and now they are here to showcase what they have done. We have the support of the Ministry of Education endorsing this, so it’s something good to see our youths do, you know, to keep them entertained, to keep them active and, you know, dancing and music really, really helps children in the school. »
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the competition, which is dedicated to showcasing students’ talent and creativity through the art of dance.
