Barnett-Ellis: “Equal Standards Must Mean Equal Standards”
Killarney MP, Michela Barnett-Ellis is pushing back against comments made by Corrections Commissioner Doan Cleare, describing them as discriminatory toward female correctional recruits.
Speaking during Monday’s signing-on ceremony for the 81st Cohort of Squad A, Cleare said male recruits would be given more leniency than their female counterparts due to a shortage of male correctional officers.
Barnett-Ellis has since criticized the remarks, arguing that recruitment and training standards should be applied fairly regardless of gender.
