Cabinet provided updates on key national initiatives

On Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Pre-Cabinet Press Briefing, Cabinet members provided updates on key national initiatives related to culture, community development, and fiscal policy.
Honourable Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Commerce, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage, outlined the continued expansion of the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, with a deliberate focus on community jazz events and the integration of arts initiatives. He emphasised the Government’s push to ensure that the festival’s cultural and economic benefits extend beyond traditional venues and into communities across the island.
Honourable Jeremiah Norbert, Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North and Minister for Home Affairs, Crime Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Persons with Disabilities, highlighted the successful staging of Jazz en Vierge in Micoud. He spoke to the significance of the event for community pride, local economic activity, and cultural expression. Minister Norbert also provided an update on the refurbishment of the Prosthetics Centre, noting its importance in improving the quality of life and expanding access to essential support services.
Prime Minister, Honourable Philip J. Pierre, who is also Minister for Finance, Justice, National Security, Constituency Development, and People Empowerment, addressed the 2026/2027 Appropriation Bill, clarifying key policy measures and outlining the Government’s fiscal direction. The Prime Minister also confirmed that the 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM will be held in Saint Lucia in July 2026, during which he will assume the Chairmanship
