Cooper's Pen Shop Owners Protest Stop Notices | Midday News
Shop owners in Coopers have blocked the road in protest after they were served with stop notices ordering them to cease building work.
The notices, issued under the Building Act, say authorities have reasonable grounds to suspect the structures are unauthorized or contravene building regulations.
The shop owners have been given thirty days to remove the structures or face demolition.
The notices also warn that anyone who continues building work after being served could, among other things, face a fine of up to one-point-five million Jamaican dollars.
A copy of the notice seen by our news team was served on August 29 and was signed by the Chief Engineering Officer of the Trelawny Municipal Corporation.
