« The Independence Day celebrations will proceed as planned.”
That’s according to the Ministry of Defence, which dismissed social media claims that Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence Day celebrations have been cancelled, describing the reports as « false and misleading ».
In a media release issued on Tuesday, the Ministry said it was regrettable that some individuals were promoting « incomplete information and unsubstantiated conclusions » with the intention of causing « disharmony and confusion ».
Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to national observances and stated that official updates would be provided through the appropriate channels.
The Ministry urged members of the public to rely on information from official Government channels and warned against unverified social media posts.
