FINANCE MINISTER SENDS WARNING TO BANKS IN HOUSE DEBATE

BANKING BURDENS [25TH JUNE 2026] – Prime Minister and Minister for Finance has renewed calls for banking institutions to better dignify the Saint Lucian public, and politically-exposed persons in their compliance to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism and anti-proliferation laws and company policies. Speaking in parliament this week, Philip J Pierre described what government house members characterised as overreach in banks’ demands for sources of funds, and proofs of identity, address and employment in instances where Pierre deemed that demand insulting and unnecessary.
