The Government of Trinidad and Tobago, in collaboration with the private sector, has agreed to undertake a national humanitarian relief response for Venezuela, following Wednesday’s powerful earthquakes.

Acting on the instructions of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs says it convened a joint public and private sector stakeholder meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government on Friday to undertake a national humanitarian relief response for Venezuela.

The meeting brought together key partners, including the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), the T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Energy Chamber, the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA), AMCHAM, and SEWA TT.

It noted that the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government will host a national collection drive beginning Monday, June 29th, 2026, operating daily from 8am to 4pm.

The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with all 14 municipal corporations, the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), and participating supermarkets across the country.

However, given the immediate needs and the current stage of recovery efforts, the public is being asked to donate only essential items, including: over-the-counter medical supplies, personal hygiene items, non-perishable food, as well as mattresses and cots

Private sector donations will be accepted at Warehouse Sheds One and Two at the Port of Point Lisas.

In addition, monetary contributions from both the public and corporate T&T can be made to the Disaster Relief Fund – Venezuela, at First Citizens Bank.

The Ministry said Government continues to coordinate with local stakeholders and Venezuelan authorities to ensure the safe and timely transport and delivery of all relief supplies.

Meanwhile, staff at Trinidad and Tobago’s Embassy in Caracas are supporting recovery coordination and working with nationals scheduled to depart Venezuela.

Up to news time, the death toll from the Venezuela earthquakes rose to at least 920, with over 3000 injured.
