Trinidad and Tobago continues to lead the way in the adoption of AI technology in our education system and public sector.
Future Ready TT, a strategic partnership for AI, utilises tools from ChatGPT and Grammarly to increase efficiency within those sectors.
Minister of Public Administration Dominic Smith and Minister of Education Dr Michael Dowlath signed the official partnership agreement for the Future Ready TT Programme on Thursday.
According to Minister Smith, the programme, which will be implemented in this country’s education system and public sector, will put our citizens’ human capital at the centre of the digital revolution.
« We are equipping public officers, educators, and students with the tools that are necessary to enhance writing, accelerate research, improve analysis, increase administrative efficiency, and strengthen communication. We are reinforcing as well the importance of human oversight. »
The programme will utilise tools from companies leading the way in artificial intelligence technology, including Grammarly and OpenAI.
Minister of Education Dr. Michael Dowlath says the Ministry will continue to promote the ethical use of AI, as it provides personalised learning experiences for all students, including those with learning challenges.
« Teachers remain at the heart of the education experience. No algorithm can replicate the empathy, the encouragement, the wisdom, and the human connection that educators bring to the classroom every single day. At the same time, we must acknowledge that AI presents extraordinary opportunities to improve teaching and learning outcomes. »
Minister Smith says he has already seen positive results after a pilot was conducted at his Ministry.
« Just in this pilot alone, where we’ve distributed 550 licences to MPAAI, persons would’ve recorded a 75% increase in productivity. Now what does that mean for our nation? It means we are becoming more efficient, and by extension we are reducing cost, so we’re saving money for the country as well. »
Trinidad and Tobago has been selected to participate in OpenAI’s Education for Countries Initiative, positioning the nation among those leading the way in digital transformation.
