Sixty-five million more doors. That is the massive global milestone that NGO, Habitat for Humanity, is hoping to open as it expands its fight against housing vulnerability.

Communications Officer for Habitat for Humanity, Quinton Dickson, says launching the second part of the « Let’s Open the Door » initiative isn’t just about creating pathways to home ownership.

He says it is a deliberate effort to pull back the curtain on its broader vision of opening 65 million more doors.

« Everywhere that we have gone, we were welcomed. People came to us, and they asked their questions, they interacted with the doors, they scanned the QR codes. It was really overwhelming, and I cannot express the amount of thanks that is in my heart. »

While many may recognise the name, few fully understand the true scale and scope of the organisation’s work across Trinidad and Tobago. On the ground, bridging that gap means confronting the stark realities facing local communities daily.

« When we interact with people, we see their needs, they are very palpable, and they express it. They are not shy about expressing it. And while as much as it pains us, we cannot assist everyone, being able to assist the persons that we assist, it is very commendable, if I do say so myself, and it is very encouraging. »

But the organisation isn’t waiting for the curtain to close on this latest public awareness drive to take action. Even as the data rolls in, Mr Dickson said teams are actively on the ground, matching immediate needs with critical resources.

« We have already started contacting persons who would have expressed that they needed assistance or who would like to still be in need, and we cannot wait until the end of the campaign before we start assisting persons. »

To sustain this momentum and ensure more families receive critical housing support, Habitat for Humanity will be hosting a major fundraising gala this October. The event aims to secure the vital resources needed to keep these active relief and resilience efforts moving forward.
