Health Report: Schizophrenia Concern Among Young People Using Drugs
106 minutes ago
In this evening’s health report, Shemala Pullen takes a closer look at schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is a serious mental health condition that affects about one per cent of the Jamaican population—approximately one in every 100 people.
The condition can run in families, suggesting a genetic link, and it may also be triggered or worsened by substance use, especially certain drugs.
Other symptoms include disorganised speech and thinking.
People with schizophrenia may also have limited awareness that they have a mental health condition requiring medical attention.
