He reflects on growing up as the eldest of five children in a single-parent household, the impact of his father’s absence, and the responsibility he carried from a young age. He shares the difficult realities of growing up with financial struggles, including moments when he went hungry while attending Jamaica College.
But football became more than just a sport. It became his escape, his outlet, and ultimately, his way forward.
Craig recalls a powerful childhood lesson from his grandfather, a former footballer and boxing champion, who taught him to confront fear rather than allow it to control him. That lesson would stay with him throughout his life and help shape his approach to challenges, football, and the people he would later mentor.
He also speaks about the coaches who became father figures in his life—including David Hunt, Waga, Mark Mandel and Jimmy Sinclair—and the pain of losing many of the people who helped guide him.
Their influence helped shape his own mission: to ensure that young footballers, including his sons and adopted sons, would have access to the guidance, opportunities and support he didn’t have growing up.
