Lawyers Demand Changes To Firearm Sentencing Laws | Midday News
Lawyers staged a silent protest outside the Supreme Court in Kingston Wednesday, calling for changes to the Firearms Act. They argue that mandatory sentences give judges little room to consider the details of individual cases.
While the lawyers support strong action against gun crime, they say sentencing should be fair and give judges more flexibility.
They are also warning that criminal court services could be withdrawn for one week, starting Monday.
The lawyers are urging Parliament to review the law and consider changes.
