Ministry Of Justice Presents Presidential Pardons To 17 Recipients

Seventeen people have been presented with Warrants of Presidential Pardon.

Minister of Justice, Devesh Maharaj, who is the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on the Power of Pardon (Mercy Committee), presided over the distribution of the warrants during a ceremony at the Ministry’s Head Office on Tuesday.

He hailed the recipients’ rehabilitation and stressed the importance of second chances and restorative justice.

The Minister thanked the Mercy Committee and its Secretariat for their work, while acknowledging the backlog of applications and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to improving the efficiency and timeliness of the pardon process.

The Ministry of Justice said the presentation of the pardons reflects its commitment to rehabilitation, restorative justice, effective institutional oversight and adherence to the rule of law.
