New Steel-Cuff Devices Planned To Curb Electronic Monitoring Breaches
More than TT$10 million was spent on 300 legacy electronic monitoring devices that were not equipped with cut-resistant straps.
This was revealed by Electronic Monitoring Unit Manager at the Ministry of Justice, Lawrence Hinds.
Speaking during a Joint Select Committee inquiry into the implementation of the Administration of Justice (Electronic Monitoring) Act, 2012, he said there have been four incidents involving breaches or tampering with the devices.
To reduce the risk of future tampering, he said the Electronic Monitoring Unit is seeking to replace the old devices and expand the use of more secure steel-cuff monitoring equipment.
