NGC Secures New Gas Supply Arrangements With EOG, Shell And bpTT
The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago has secured favourable gas supply arrangements from multinational energy companies operating in the country.
This is according to NGC Chairman Gerald Ramdeen, who said the agreements position the company to better meet domestic energy demands while supporting the stability of the sector.
Mr Ramdeen made the disclosure while addressing members of the downstream energy sector at a networking event hosted by the United States Embassy in Port of Spain.
« I am pleased to announce today that the NGC over the last few months have held negotiations with EOG Resources and bpTT. And last week the NGC signed a term sheet to acquire 100% of the EOG volumes for this development to increase its supply of gas to the downstream. »
Mr Ramdeen noted that these agreements reflect the company’s success in negotiating improved terms that will deliver greater benefits to Trinidad and Tobago.
« The completion of this agreement will add 300 bcf of gas to NGC’s supply and, most importantly, that 300 bcf is 300% more than was originally allocated when the development was sanctioned under the former administration. »
The second development involved progress in discussions with Shell and the Aphrodite gas field, marking another step towards securing future gas supplies.
« First gas for Coconut is expected in Q3 of 2027. These are the types of decisions that will preserve our downstream and ensure our national prosperity into the future. The second announcement that I am very pleased to make today is that I can announce that the NGC has completed its negotiations with Shell and the Aphrodite development has now been sanctioned, with first gas expected in Q2 2027. »
The NGC Chairman outlined the key terms of the agreement, including the value of the gas supply arrangements secured for the company.
« I am particularly pleased with one aspect of this agreement because it demonstrates the difference between what transpired before and what applies now. The concluded terms of these negotiations brought 400% more value to the NGC and, by extension, the country than what was negotiated by the previous administration. »
The US Embassy hosted the networking reception bringing together government officials and key stakeholders from T&T’s downstream energy sector to foster dialogue and strengthen industry relationships.
