NHIA CEO: “We Saw An Increase of 9.6% Total STD Diagnosis”

National Health Insurance Authority CEO Christy Butler revealed this morning that amongst beneficiaries, HIV/AIDS increased by 44% in 2025, with 354 reported cases.
There was also a 9.6% increase in overall STD diagnoses, including a 23% rise in syphilis cases. Women accounted for 58% of reported STD diagnoses, while men represented 42%, which she attributed to woman at times being more symptomatic.
According to the statistics, adults between the ages of 25 and 44 recorded the highest proportion of STD cases, underscoring growing public health concerns and the need for increased awareness, testing and prevention efforts.
