One Held Following Anti Crime Raids In Port Of Spain And Western Division

One man has been arrested and ammunition and cannabis seized following two separate anti-crime exercises in the Port of Spain and Western Divisions on Wednesday.

Police reported that ammunition and cannabis were seized, and one man was arrested, during separate anti-crime exercises carried out in the Port of Spain and Western Divisions between Wednesday night and early Thursday.

In the first operation, officers from the Belmont and Besson Street Police Stations and the Canine Unit conducted an overnight intelligence-led raid as part of Operation Resolute Shield.

Acting on information, officers searched houses in Gonzales, Belmont Valley Road, Snake Valley, Laventille Road, Perseverance Lane and Plover Street.

During a search of an abandoned structure at Snake Valley in Laventille, officers found 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 40 grammes of cannabis.

A man from Rudolph Charles Link Road in Gonzales was also arrested in connection with larceny enquiries in Central Trinidad.

Meanwhile, in the Western Division, Task Force officers raided an area along Savannah Road Number One, Diego Martin, known as « The Gaza ».

Police searched a known drug block and an adjacent unsecured property, where they found 94 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition hidden inside a half-tank.

Four bags of marijuana weighing 104 grammes were also found and seized.

Both exercises formed part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms, ammunition and narcotics from communities.
