PARLIAMENT EXTENDS VAT-FREE BUILDING MATERIALS THROUGH 2030 AMID HEATED DEBATE
Opposition leader Allen Chastanet has cast doubt on whether the government’s vat relief on building materials is actually working.
Chastanet claimed that official figures suggest the policy has not spurred new home construction for everyday saint Lucians, even as lawmakers signed off on a five-year renewal.
However, government lawmakers countered that the data actually show the construction sector still expanded, just at a more moderate rate, and insisted the measure remains effective.
