PM Persad-Bissessar: Data Shows Nationwide Drop in Serious Crime, T&T "Becoming Safer"
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC says Trinidad and Tobago is becoming safer, as new data shows a 15% decline in serious crime during the first seven months of 2026.
In a statement, she shared statistics showing that serious crime across all police divisions fell from just over 6,400 incidents between January and July 20th, 2025, to just over 5,500 during the same period this year.
This, she said, represents a decrease of 955 incidents.
She pointed out that the largest decreases were achieved in the Northern Division with a 32% decrease, 30% decrease in the North Eastern Division, 22% down in the Eastern Division, and 22% in Central.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar said the data on serious crime, combined with the data showing that there have been approximately 400 fewer murders than projected from 2025 to July 2026, clearly shows that the TTPS and the Government are making steady progress with anti-crime efforts during the SOE.
However, she said there is still more to do to bring down the numbers further.
