The Association of Real Estate Agents celebrated thirty-five years of advocacy and professional service on Friday.

Established in 1990, the Association of Real Estate Agents, better known as AREA, has aimed to improve the real estate industry for both real estate professionals and the public by boosting the performance of real estate agents and promoting regulation.

President of AREA, Sally Singh, expanded on the ways the Association has evolved to continuously encourage passion and professionalism.

« AREA, this year, we’re celebrating our 35th anniversary. We have been in the industry to promote professionalism in the industry and raising the bar for what is expected from a real estate agent. At the Association we have rules, regulations. We have a disciplinary and ethics committee. We have an education committee where we have monthly training for our members to promote the highest best-practice standards in the industry. »

In addition to ensuring that the public benefits from interactions with well-equipped agents, AREA is focused on the development of legislation to protect the public.

« We want the public to be very well aware of what their rights are and to have consumer protected as well. We have been working very hard to make sure that there’s legislation within the real estate industry. There’s a Real Estate Act of 2020, which has not been proclaimed as yet, but we have been working with the relevant agencies to try and make sure it’s proclaimed soon. So, that there’s some sort of legislation and regulation in the industry. »

With three hundred members and growing, the Association of Real Estate Agents continues to ensure that interactions between industry experts and the public remain ethical and professional.
