To see the continued passion for the Feast of Corpus Christi, Latin for « Body of Christ, » was welcomed by many. Established in 13th-century Europe to honor the Eucharist, the tradition arrived in Trinidad and Tobago via Spanish and French Catholic settlers. It remains a deeply rooted national public holiday, legally preserved since the 1797 capitulation to the British.
