As the Christmas season approaches, the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force Band will be hosting its “Christmas Under the Stars” concert and competition, designed to showcase the immense young talent within the organisation.

The show, being executed by the cadets themselves, will showcase jazz, reggae, waltz, and Christmas renditions, encapsulating all that is the festive season. It will also see the cadets compete for various prizes.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force Parent Committee, Leeanna Callender, says that in preparation for the event, the cadets are acquiring discipline through music.

« The sergeants and the LT, they work tirelessly to keep these kids and these youths out of trouble. Coming out to the event is giving them a sense of hope, a sense that they are not alone in this world, because as you leave kids, you know what will happen, they fall into the wrong hands and that’s the end of it. »

She added that the event serves as a reminder of the progress and achievements the cadets have made.

« This event is just to showcase the talents, how they have evolved from the time, because these are children who, when they went into the organisation, they did not know how to play any of these instruments. So Lieutenant Toppin and the sergeants, they were very instrumental in helping these cadets come from beginners to intermediate, until some of them are now advanced. Some of these kids are thirteen years, fourteen years, and fifteen years old, and are grade three and four in music. »

Funds raised from the event will go towards repairing the band room and purchasing instruments for the young musicians.
