From trade to investment, Trinidad and Tobago businesses are setting their sights on Canada.
A new trade and investment mission to the North American country from August 27th to September 2nd aims to unlock partnerships, attract investment, and create opportunities for companies to expand globally.
The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, in partnership with the High Commission of Canada in Trinidad and Tobago, will lead a delegation to Toronto for its Beyond Borders Canada Trade and Investment Mission 2026.
It will also partner with the local investment and promotion agency, Global Trinidad and Tobago.
TT Chamber President Karen Yip Chuck said the mission will provide significant opportunities for members.
“While supporting exports remains central to our work, we also recognise that many businesses are seeking investment, strategic partnerships and new opportunities to grow internationally. Our approach, therefore, reflects the broader needs of our members and the realities of today’s global business environment.”
High Commissioner for Canada to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Michael Ryan Callan, reflected on the trade partnerships that have long tied both nations together.
He assured delegates that with preferential trade access to 61% of global GDP and 1.5 billion consumers, Canada is a trusted platform for global expansion.
“Trinidad and Tobago is Canada’s largest merchandise trading partner in CARICOM, with two-way merchandise trade reaching approximately $467 million, but I believe that number represents not a ceiling of our relationship but a strong foundation, because Canada offers something business value perhaps now more than ever before: stability, predictability, transparency.”
Chief Executive Officer of Global Trinidad and Tobago, Sekou Alleyne, shared one of the initiatives it will provide to delegates ahead of the mission.
“The first is a Doing Business in Canada Seminar that will provide companies with practical insights into the Canadian market, key growth opportunities, available support services such as TFO Canada, the competitive landscape, and strategies for overcoming market entry challenges. This will help businesses make informed decisions about participating in the mission and begin developing effective market entry strategies.”
Delegates will meet importers, distributors and retailers and will be exposed to investment opportunities, as well as participate in the Trinbago Toronto Festival.
Founder and CEO of Individual Aesthetic, Keegan Simon, in his testimonial on the ease of doing business in Canada, said his business has not only grown but he has also made invaluable connections.
