Impeachment of South Korea president fails, but party will seek his resignation
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol survived an impeachment vote in parliament on Saturday, after his short-lived attempt to impose martial law earlier this week. Yoon's People Power Party (PPP) boycotted the impeachment vote, put forward by the main opposition Democratic Party, and the motion was scrapped after not enough lawmakers participated. In reaction to the failed vote, thousands of protesters gathered outside the National Assembly in Seoul to express their anger and disappointment, some with tears in their eyes. After the vote, PPP leader Han Dong-hoon told reporters the party had decided that Yoon would eventually resign. According to reports, Han has a history of clashes with Yoon, and it was unclear if he was speaking for all PPP members.
