In response to a social media post announcing that the Bahamas is expected to receive 300 teachers from Ghana, Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson said it is disrespectful that the union was not consulted while qualified Bahamian teachers remain unemployed. Wilson called out Prime Minister Philip Davis and Minister of Education Chester Cooper, saying the government was able to negotiate the recruitment of teachers from Ghana while salary negotiations with the union remain unresolved. She also said teachers are still waiting to be hired and many have yet to receive payments for salary reassessments and various allowances owed to them.
