MOA Monitoring Cyclospiasis Outbreak In U.S. | TVJ News
Jamaica is increasing surveillance of imported produce following a major food safety outbreak in the United States.
The Ministry of Agriculture says it is closely monitoring an ongoing multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis in the U.S.
U.S. health officials have linked several cases to shredded iceberg lettuce, prompting a product recall and an expanded investigation.
As of July 18, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 1,600 confirmed cases and 94 hospitalisations.
Locally, the Plant Quarantine and Produce Inspection Branch has tightened monitoring of imported iceberg lettuce and other leafy vegetables. Authorities say surveillance at Jamaica’s ports of entry is also being strengthened, while officials continue to verify the traceability of imported produce to protect consumers.
